Ombre Jumper – Vogue 9116

OMBRE!!!!!

Yes , I\’m screaming … screaming from the excitement AND frustration of finally completing this project !! It took me two weeks y\’all ….. TWO WEEKS ………

If any of you follow me on Instagram you know that about two weeks ago I posted Vogue Pattern 9116 and a picture of Pink Flamingo Dylon Dye .

Yeaaaah , well that didnt work out, the problem came in when I purchased my fabric from Fine Fabrics in Norcross, Ga.  When I arrived at Fine Fabrics I knew that I wanted fabric with a good drape and lightweight … after going through there immense stock I settled on a beautiful polyester creme fabric . Now, I LOVE going to this place because of their cheap prices and large stock BUT by them being  almost like a wholesaler their fabric comes on  huge tubes of fabric ( very different from the tradition fabric store bolts) .  At the beginning of each isle your are greeted with a short description of what fabrics are on that isle ,there are no descriptions of the EXACT content of the fabric on the bolt( like in tradition fabric stores) . SO I purchased this fabric knowing that it had a polyester content but in my mind I was SURE that it was not 100% polyester because of how it felt. Polyester is a stain resistant fabric so IF it is 100%  it wont dye with tradition fabric dyes… Now remember I was SURE that this fabric was a blend so I went to the store with that in mind and purchased my dye….

I chose Dylon because I wanted a radiant color and I knew FLAMINGO PINK would get the job done … I marked off the sections to show how far up I wanted to go on each shade of the dye and went to work . I was so happy when i finised dyeing my pants because they came out a BEAUTIFUL rich pink gradient …I ran to the washer… popped those babies in the wash and waited impatiently until they finished . I grabbed them out of the washer and was horrified ( yes im dramatic) to find that they where back to the  original color ….  just about all the dye had washed away!!!!  I honestly couldn\’t get mad at anyone but myself because I should have treated it like 100% polyester like that little  voice in the back of my mind had been telling me all alone

So after spending a full day researching what would work with polyester I tried a dye called idye Poly  in the shade pink .

The process for using this dye was a little more daunting because polyester actually has to be boiled to get the dye to take. Imagine if you will .. me standing over the stove for 30 mins .. dip dyeing pants ( with toxic smelling dye) … NOT FUN … but I got it done and ended with a beautiful result !!!

I love how they turned out !! The color turned out smooth and transitioned the way I wanted !!

Ive had the idea to do ombre pants like this for a while , I\’m so glad I tried it out !!
The jumper was SUPER easy to construct … I constructed both piece separately then i dip dyed the pants and let them dry before I connected them to the top . The pattern was a breeze.
I had to adjust the elastic and around the waist because both pieces where to big for me .I also added 2 inches to the pants to accommodate my long legs 🙂

Im going to make one more in a another color before the summer is over !!

I love this outfit  and I cant wait to make another ,but there will be no dip dyeing 🙂 !!
In the next coming months I will began a YouTube series on\”Wardrobe Essentials\” . I want to try and cover the basic pieces that each woman needs in her wardrobe ( Regardless of the season ).I hope that you will  join me in making pieces that you may need added to your wardrobe .
So stay tuned for that !
Until Next Time  XOXOXO

These are so fun! Love them! Curious to know if you had to do anything special to your washing machine to remove the previous dye (the one that washed out)?
