So let me start by saying that floral is NOT my normal Choice ….
However ! When I saw this beautiful floral Challis at my local Joanns I had to have it !!
I already had the pattern in mind that I was going to use it for ….. Simplicity 8084 !!
I told y\’all you would see more of her patterns !!
I mean this one I knew I had to have the moment I saw it !!
The pattern was easy to follow however I made a TON of mistakes …
ALL of which where because of me trying to rush and get it done in ONE day …
Lets just say that didnt work out and it ended up taking me about 3 days to finish it !!
There where a lot of elements in this pattern that I have never done before ..
PLACKETS … at first I was like Waaaaaa .. but the instructions where very easy to follow along
(That didn\’t stop me from having to redo them a few times!! )
The right placket had \”hidden buttons\” , this was something that I had never done before so the process took me a few times to get right ! I will say be sure to transfer ALL your markings !!
This is CRUCIAL !!
Another mistake I made was NOT cutting the back on the fold .. I cut two pieces, and because I am lazy and CHEAP, I ended up having to make a very narrow seam to get back that space .
I cut the dress two inches longer than the pattern called for so that it would skim the grown but it still ended up falling short .. This is because the bunching in the bodice draws the dress up.
Next time ill add 4 inches !!!
Overall, despite my complications… I love the dress
I love the soft spring look of it .. thats what I was going for ..
BUT next time I will definitely use a solid !!
This came off a tad bit lingerieish to me 🙂

You picked a beautiful flora for your maxi. It was worth the extra work. I understand what you are talking about when it comes to transferring all of the markings as it is much harder on print fabric. You should make another one.

You did an awesome job. Even though you had some problems, you pushed through and did something you never did before. Even though you questioned the fabric after it was made, you definitely have a beautiful dress for the summer. I hope when I make mine, it comes out nice.

Beautiful. I am making this dress now and just sick that I didn't add any length to it. Oh well, I am still gonna rock some heels with it. It'll be cool. I wasn't sure I was gonna make this dress but, in the process of sewing it, I can honestly say it's much easier sewing it than cutting this dang thang out. Cutting out is not my favorite, but I am really pleased with how it is coming out. I was cheering for you to see if you could get it done in a day. You slayed! It's a BEAUTIFUL dress!
